National Council on Social Development (NCSD)

The National Council on Social Development (NCSD) is the first social development network in the Philippines. The idea came into fruition in April 1949 as the Council of Welfare Agencies, Inc. (CWAPI). In 1986, it launched a street children project in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the UNICEF. It is the first NGO network to be given license and accreditation by the DSWD on Community-Based programs for children and families. NCSD has organized clusters and provided technical assistance to its member NGOs and POs serving the street children in Metro Manila. It also initiated consultations and coordinated plans of actions for street children. In 1988, the CWAPI changed its name to NCSD. NCSD is a founding member of the Philippine Council for NGO Certification. It is also one of the founding members of CODE-NGO.
